SMU ID cards are issued at the University ID Centre located on the first floor of Library*. This ID is used as your library card, your meal card (if applicable), your bus pass (a sticker added by SMUSA) and it gets you into the Homburg Centre.

We put a sticker on the back showing the card is valid for the year. You get a new sticker for each year you are enrolled (or employed) at SMU. If you are returning to SMU for a new academic year, your card expires on September 30th, but you can update your information and get a new sticker at the Circulation desk in the Library.

There is a $15 fee for a replacement card. The amount is added to your library account and paid at the Circulation desk.

During the regular academic year (September through April), the ID Centre is open:

Monday-Thursday: 10:00-2:00, 6:00-8:00
Friday: 10:00-2:00
Saturday and Sunday: Please ask for service at the Circulation Desk

You may submit an ID card request using our Online Photo ID Submission form.

Students applying for a University Identification Card must bring a photo ID (such as a Driver’s License or Passport) and your Banner number (i.e., A number) to the Library. You must be registered for at least one course, and we will confirm your class registration before producing an ID. All students are required to fill out a Student ID Form. You may print out and bring a completed form when you come to the library.

Saint Mary’s faculty and staff may also apply for ID cards either in person or electronically. All faculty and staff are required to fill out a Library and Staff Registration Form. This form must be signed off by the Department Head and presented before an ID card is issued.

The ID Centre summer hours are:

Monday-Friday: 10:00-2:00
Saturday: The Library is closed
Sunday:  Please ask for service at the Circulation desk

*A Service Expo is held at the end of August/early September for new and returning students. For more information, please contact the Circulation desk at 902-420-5547 or
