The library has laptop computers available to borrow.

Please note:

  • Laptops are only available to current students, staff and faculty in good standing (i.e., no blocks on their account) and with a valid SMU ID.
  • The library does have "Faculty Lecture Kits" available for faculty to borrow to help create online lectures. Please contact Access Services for more information.
  • There are two types of laptop loans: a 3-hour loan and a 30-day loan.
  • For a 3-hour laptop loan, you can temporarily save data to the laptop, but once the laptop is restarted or shutdown, all saved data and settings will be permanently erased. This does not apply to a 30-day laptop loan.
  • We recommend that you save your work to a USB/Flash drive, to your personal OneDrive, or email your work to yourself.
  • No mouse is provided.
  • To access the internet you must use your S number and password or your SMU email address..
  • Laptops can be renewed as long as there is availability. Please stop by the circulation desk to renew a 3-hr loan laptop. To request a renewal for a 30-day loan, please email access@smu.ca. As long as no other students are on our waitlist, we will honor your renewal request.

Check the Novanet catalogue for laptop availability.

Please refer to the Laptop Agreement below for full details on borrowing a laptop. Email access@smu.ca with any questions.
